Using eTextbooks - Faculty

How to create links for use in Canvas and other handy tips

What's the big deal?

What's the big deal about using eBooks or eTextbooks?

The big deal for faculty at KansasCOM is selecting available resources to use in courses and creating links to aid students in accessing them.

Students have the same degree of access to eTexts as faculty, but creating links ensures that students are accessing the correct book and reading the assigned text in order to prepare for class.

The KansasCOM Library provides access to a wide variety of online books and textbooks that faculty may assign as readings for students. Faculty may also decide to assign articles, documents, videos and other materials for students to read or examine in order to prepare for class lectures, discussions, labs or other scholarly activities.

This guide is intended to assist faculty in creating links to the various eBook platforms available for KansasCOM. If you need information about creating links to other resource types, such as full text articles or streaming videos, please click the information below.

Instructions for creating links is the same no matter which vendor platform an eBook is located. What is different is the information faculty may consider including to guide students to access and read assignments.

Be sure to review instructions for the platform where your text is located. Click the links below to visit the entire collection of eBooks and other teaching resources available.

This video demonstrates how to get a link for a textbook to share with students.
