Description: |
The KABC-II is composed of 18 core and supplementary subtests. The number of core and supplementary subtests depends on the age of the child and the model the clinician chooses to use (either the Luria or CHC model). However, the same core subtests are administered for each scale whether the examiner uses the Luria or CHC model to interpret results. The KABC-II was co-normed with the KTEA-II to provide conormed tests of intelligence and achievement. The KABC-II yields four or five scales, depending on which interpretive model examiners use. The CHC model organizes subtests according to Short Term Memory (Gsm), Visual Processing (Gv), Long-Term Storage & Retrieval (Glr), Fluid Reasoning (Gf), and Crystallized Ability (Gc) scales, yielding a Fluid-Crystallized Index composite estimated from all five scales. The Luria model simply renames these scales Sequential Processing, Simultaneous Processing, Learning Ability, and Planning Ability, and yields a Mental Processing Index global scale based on four of the five scales (excluding the Gc scale). The number of core subtests using the CHC model ranges from 7 to 10, depending on the child's age, and the number of core subtests using the Luria model ranges from 5 to 8 (due to the elimination of the two subtests comprising the Knowledge scale). In addition, the Nonverbal scale yields the Nonverbal Index and is composed of four or five subtests, depending on the child's age, that include language-reduced instructions and nonverbal responses. All subtest scale scores are normed to a mean of 10 (SD = 3), whereas Index scores are normed to a mean of 100 (SD = 15). |
