The academic Department of Research provides rigorous, interdisciplinary research instruction to graduate students across Saybrook colleges. The innovative Saybrook research curriculum is taught by experienced faculty from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. It is designed to prepare students to complete research elements in their degree programs, such as the Ph.D. dissertation and master’s project, to contribute to their academic careers and change communities.
As an interdisciplinary academic department, our mission is to deliver rigorous and innovative student-centered research instruction. We support academic excellence for all students through a pedagogy that appreciates applied research, invites transformational change, and promotes humanistic values that are core to the Saybrook mission.
The Department of Research serves all Saybrook students. Our courses support the growth and development of scholars at the graduate and doctoral levels. Our core and adjunct faculty teach 17 different research courses at the foundational and advanced levels that support students in the College of Social Science (CSS) and the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences (CIMHS). We serve approximately 20% of all Saybrook students each semester and provide ongoing curricular support for individually mentored courses for graduate capstones, dissertation proposals, and dissertation completion.
