What is Mentor Petitions?

The Mentor Petitions system is built on the same system as our online IRB review and submissions system, Mentor IRB.  The Mentor Petitions system is used to submit dissertation petitions and milestones online. The Mentor Petitions system allows for the online review and approval of faculty and administrators. At Saybrook, there are many types of academic petitions, such as petitions to create research committees, petitions to take courses, and petitions for incomplete grades.

Currently, two research petitions are available online in Mentor Petitions:

  • Petition to Form the Dissertation Committee
  • Request for External Committee Member Form

Students document their dissertation milestones as part of their PTFDC in Mentor.  The following dissertation milestones are filed as part of PTFDC in Mentor:

  • Dissertation Proposal Orals
  • Dissertation Defense

Students also request to schedule their dissertation defense and dissertation editor in Mentor Petitions.

Note: Other petitions are available from the Saybrook Registrar's Forms.

What is Mentor?

Saybrook uses Mentor, an online software platform that facilitates several research administration activities.    The Mentor system can be accessed via the Saybrook Academic Commons using your Saybrook login credentials.

The Mentor system has three areas:

  • Mentor Petitions, as part of Dissertation Services, enables doctoral student researchers to file their Petition to Form Dissertation Committee (PTFDC) and their dissertation milestone reports to track their dissertation progress.
  • Mentor IRB, as part of the Institutional Review Board, is where researchers submit their IRB applications before conducting research studies involving human participants or their data.
  • Mentor Grants, as part of Sponsored Programs, simplifies the research grant application and post-award reporting processes.
