DEIB Learning Collective PLC - DRAFT

Welcome to the DEIB Learning Collective

This page introduces Saybrook University’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Professional Learning Community (PLC) - a collaborative, research-driven group open to students, faculty, alumni, and external partners. The DEIB PLC reflects Saybrook’s ongoing commitment to inclusive excellence by creating a space for shared learning, critical inquiry, and meaningful academic contribution within and beyond our university community.

About the DEIB Learning Collective PLC

Mission

To foster a research-driven, collaborative space for the exploration of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) within academic and professional contexts. Our aim is to generate knowledge, promote critical inquiry, and share resources that contribute meaningfully to the Saybrook community and broader scholarly discourse in alignment with the Saybrook University Mission.

Goals

1.    Engage in shared, systematic learning through common readings, discussion, and critical reflection on DEIB topics
2.    Produce academically grounded outputs such as white papers, presentations, scholarly articles, curated bibliographies, or conference materials
3.    Create opportunities for dialogue and mutual learning within and beyond Saybrook through webinars, workshops, or invited speakers
4.    Support members in pursuing individual DEIB-related academic interests that align with the PLC’s mission and Saybrook University mission
5.    Contribute to a more inclusive academic culture by sharing findings and strategies grounded in research and lived experience

Scope of Work

This PLC will operate as a collaborative learning space rather than a governing or curriculum body. Our work will focus on generating ideas, knowledge, and practical resources that inform and inspire, but do not mandate or enforce curricular change. Any curricular impact will be driven through faculty partnerships and department-level dialogue. Participation is open to faculty, students, alumni, and community collaborators.

Professional Learning Communities

What is a Professional Learning Community?

At Saybrook, a Professional Learning Community (PLC) is a collaborative group of faculty, staff, students, alumni, or other stakeholders (or any combination thereof) who engage in shared learning experiences around a common topic or area to enhance academic, professional, community, and personal development. PLCs focus on advancing understanding of the topic in a manner that can be shared with others. For full details on Saybrook PLCS, see our Professional Learning Communities page.
