Creating Permalinks to Library Resources

Sharing Links - Getting Started

The purpose of this guide is to provide step-by-step help for saving sharable links for the library's eResources. While each database or publisher's site will be different, most will provide some way to create a link by which other users can access the content, including journals, articles, books, and book chapters. Use the menu on the left to find instructions for OneSearch (the library catalog search) as well as some of our most popular databases.

How to use the OpenAthen's Link Generator Tool

OpenAthens is the library's system for allowing authorized students and faculty to access full text library resources from anywhere. The link generator tool is a quick and easy way to create links that will take users to the full text - particularly in cases where publishers and databases have not already provided a shareable link. Keep in mind that while the tool is compatible with most of our content providers it will not work for EBSCO, ProQuest, Gale, or Clinical Key. See the rest of this guide for info on how to create links for those sources.

In order to create a link you just need to do the following:

  1. Copy the link in the search bar for the page you want to share

  2. Go to the Link Generator Tool at the following link: https://go.openathens.net/generate/tcsedsystem.edu/72355083
  3. Paste the link where it says "Enter your links"
  4. Your new link will automatically appear below. Click the Copy button and then paste wherever you are sharing your link.
