Saybrook Alumni Library Services

A guide to library services for graduates of Saybrook University.

Academic Libraries

If you live near a public university or a community college, you may be able to use the library on the campus and access the subscription databases onsite. Many such academic libraries allow users to browse the collection and access online databases in-house for free. Some institutions issue library cards to non-affiliated individuals for a fee for those who find value in such a purchase. The reasoning behind access to these academic libraries is that taxpayers are helping to fund resources so they should be able to utilize them.

Public Libraries

Most municipalities have a public library, even those in rural areas. Public libraries are often part of a network of borrowing and lending services and they may include colleges and universities. Just as you were able to borrow from other libraries outside of Saybrook, you may also request interlibrary loan services from your public library. Visit your public library, request a library card and inquire about interlibrary loan.

State Electronic Libraries

Special Libraries

Special libraries cover a specific discipline or serve a special group of people.

Examples of special libraries include corporate libraries, law libraries, medical libraries, libraries of advocacy organizations, professional associations, research centers, etc. Typically they are not open to the public but they may be able to assist you if you have a professional affiliation or if they are willing and able to point you in the right direction. The reference librarians who oversee these libraries are generally very knowledgeable on their specialized subject area and can be a great resource.
