Library Course Readings in Canvas (Pilot Phase)

Creating a reading list from scratch

  1. Click on Readings & Resources New
  2. Click on the Create new list button to start a list from scratch
  3. If you already have a list for the course, click the Create List button on the top left.
  4. Add the Reading List title. You also have the option to add a description and a link to the course it will be a part of.
  5. Click Next
  6. From here you can choose how your list will be divided up, by modules, weeks, units, or just default, which will allow you to sections and title them as you wish.
  7. Select Create List

Create a List from an Existing List

  1. Click on Readings & Resources
  2. Choose "Create list from an existing list" and click "Select Existing List"

  1. Choose the list that you want to duplicate from the list and then select "Duplicate"

  1. Enter the list's name. You will see the option "Do you want sharable links to the original list to redirect to the duplicated list once it is published? " Select "yes". 
  2. From here you can simply select "Create" Or you can click on "Advanced Settings" and further customize the list before creating it.
  3. Customize which fields will be copied to the new list and when finished, select "Create"

The list will now appear in the "Readings and Resources" for the course

Adding sections to your reading list

1. Select Add and then New Section

2. Enter the Title for the section, for example, Module 1 Readings 

3. (Optional) Provide a description for section

4. (Optional) Decide when to make readings available by calendar 

5. Select Add

Editing sections in your reading list

To edit your section:

1. Click the ellipses (3 dots).

2. Select Edit Section. You also have the option to delete, copy, export, and print from this menu.

3. Make the desired changes.

4. Click Save
