Required Resources

The following resources provide the official requirements expected of Saybrook students when submitting their work. Note that specific requirements provided by your instructor will take precedence over those outlined within these sources.

  1. The Saybrook Handbook of Format and Style is required for dissertations and thesis publications. In cases where the handbook conflicts with APA, the requirements of the handbook take precedence.
  2. The APA Manual (7th ed.) is currently not available for free. However, it may be purchased from Amazon or directly from the APA website, which contains digital versions. Below is the reference information.

American Psychological Association. (2020). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.). https://doi.org/10.1037/0000165-000

Optional Resources

Writing Services has developed the resources below to help students apply APA formatting in Word documents. Embedded within each template are instructions on how to use Microsoft Word.

Below, you will find an example student paper created by APA. There are annotations and notes from APA that highlight formatting requirements provided within the document.

The APA website contains a majority of the information presented within the APA manual. There are additional PDF Resources and useful tools within the website. It can be accessed here: https://apastyle.apa.org/

Within the APA website, you can also access a free APA tutorial. The tutorial provides a thorough overview of the requirements for the current APA manual. Click here to access the free APA tutorial. In this tutorial the following topics are covered:
