Writing Resources

Not all documents include tables or figures, but for those that do, tables and figures may be included after the reference list on separate pages or they may be embedded in the text after the first paragraph where they are mentioned. When referring to a table or figure in the text, use its number (ex., Figure 1, Table 3, etc.).

Tables and figures are introduced by using a specific heading style. First, the word “Table" or “Figure" and number should appear in bold (ex., Table 1). On the next line, the title of the table or figure should be presented in italics (ex., Demographics of Study Participants). Then, on the line beneath the title, the table or figure is provided. Following the table or figure, notes may be included as needed.

All components of table(s) or figure(s) should remain on the same page. This includes table/figure number, title, image, and notes. If any of these components are separated by a page break, all components should be moved to the next page.
